This work discusses how Soriano established himself by combining genres. For instance, he fused detective fiction with the comedy of Laurel and Hardy. This apparently incongruent mix borders on the absurd as a commentary on the historical events of military repression in Argentina during the 1970s and 1980s. His action-packed prose unmasks his native country's ethical and political corruption during the periods of history that has come to be called The Dirty War.
